This 18th century chemise and underskirt form the foundation of the traditional Robe a la Francaise. The chemise, made from lightweight cotton, features a wide square neckline and elbow-length sleeves finished with triangular gussets for ease of movement and period-accurate shaping. Beneath it, the underskirt is cut in wool flannel and falls with generous volume, its fullness created through continuous pleating around the waist and secured to a twill tape waistband.
