A.Fox - Custom Bias Gown
A gown that balances 1930s glamour with modern ease. Rich in color, fluid in line, and detailed inside and out — made to be worn for a single remarkable evening and remembered for far longer.
Cut from lame and set on the true bias, the fabric falls in a liquid line that skims the figure and shifts with every step, catching the light across its surface as it moves. The halter neckline frames the shoulders and collarbone in one clean, uninterrupted line, drawing the eye upward and elongating the torso. The back opens in a dramatic sweep, finished with criss-crossing straps that offer a graphic counterpoint to the softness of the drape. Through the skirt, chiffon godets are set at intervals to introduce volume and lift, letting the hem float and flare as the wearer walks — a technical detail with a purely visual payoff, giving the skirt movement and dimension without adding weight or bulk.
Inside, the gown is built to hold its shape and stay comfortable through a long evening of wear. The neckline and armhole edges are stabilized so the bias cannot stretch out of line, the back opening is finished with custom covered buttons and loops, and the lining is attached by hand with pick stitching along the neckline and armhole seam allowances. Bias garments live or die by these internal details; they are what let a gown this fluid stay true to its line from the first fitting to the last dance.
As a custom piece, the gown is drafted to the wearer's measurements and refined through fittings, in person or by video. Bias-cut garments call for a patient fitting process, since the fabric continues to settle and move with the body over time — and that extra step is what makes the final fit feel genuinely personal rather than approximate.
